What are hard hands? Not a workers hands… haha… but hard hands in blackjack? Hard hands are 2 cards that don’t include an Ace and they add up to from 5 through to 19. So the average winning blackjack hand is 18.5, which means anything below 19 is below average. Getting 20 is great, but getting 21 is the number that you want. It’s the winner, winner, chicken dinner of hands. My advice is to never Hit on any hard hand that is 17 or higher, even if you get a 20, don’t split them and treat them as a hard hand because they are nearly perfect.

What are breaking hands? In blackjack casino games they are not hands that you break the chair or table with. They are hands that cause players the most grief because they are unsure of how to play them. Breaking cards are the 2, 3, 4, 5, and the 6. If you get them with a 10, then you have to make some big decisions. If you proceed to Hit, you will most likely go bust. If you are up against a dealer’s strong hand then you have a much less chance of winning. So on 12 through to 16, I would Hit and take a chance of either drawing or winning. You may get some luck, but it’s worth a try. It works the other way round too. The dealer could get a bad card of 2 or 6, so you let the dealer do the Hitting. In this situation you have to assume that the dealer has a high card for the second card, so if you have a weak hand then you Stand. And the dealer won’t have a choice but to Hit because the dealer has to Hit on all hands that are 16 or lower.

If you play basic blackjack strategy correctly at all times, then you will have a great 0.5% difference between you and the edge of the casino.
