Florida always tries to maintain its image of having a clean slate. Gambling is not one of the favorite spare time activities, at least that is what the public opinion is trying to say. Despite the criticism towards gaming, the Florida house select committee approved an Indian gaming proposal in the beginning of April this year. The House on tribal gambling compact decided to allow the Seminole Indian Tribe the rare privilege to host Las Vegas style and Class III slot machines in the state of Florida. They are licensed to offer their games in seven casino but they have to pay a fee of exorbitant $100 million a year.

The proposal paves the way for Governor Crist to discuss a new gambling compact since the previous one has been terminated on short notice by the Florida Supreme Court. The Governor is now in need to order the Seminole Trial to ban blackjack casino games and other card games like baccarat. Apparently, the Supreme Court stated that card games, like Blackjack or Baccarat, are not legal as there is no particular law that actually permits them. Governor Charlie Crist is dealing with the case.

In general, people seem to be quite content with the gaming compact. The Republican representative Bill Galvano explains that the new gambling pact is in fact a good agreement between the Seminole tribe’s demand to offer Las Vegas slot machines and the wish of the officials to curb gambling in the sunshine state. Most of the money that the Indian tribe pays in exchange to maintain their casino establishments legality, goes to state educational institutions. 5 % of it will be spent on local government and community programs that help people who are facing problems with gambling.

The proposal actually limits the Seminole’s way to operate casinos. Before that they were allowed to provide their customers with fully equipped Las Vegas style casinos with games like craps, blackjack, roulette and many more.
